You have to remember that Man (Manolito needs a nickname) is fighting for his life, so he would do almost anything to continue to live. It does not seem likely that the Prince would prevent a Carpathian to claim his lifemate, but Mr. Man didn't seem to be thinking very straight at the time, perhaps because he is so close to the edge, just as Gregori was not all there mentally when he claimed Raven.
I noticed one thing, is that MaryAnn was not noted as particularly sexy in the other book where she was introduced, yet Man finds her incrediably sexy. It seems like a Carpathian male finds his own lifemate incrediably beautiful, even if to the eyes of others she seems pretty ordinary.

I know he is fighting for his life but you can also say that about vamps. I think the Carpathians men need to be a little more upfront. They need to seduce the women, not forcefull sedection either.
That is great that you are a teacher Mariana!

i agree cynth i hate how he just forced maryann in to his life, didn't even give her a chance. if she is his lifemate she would have come to him no matter what but to force her? she might reject him completely now. this is why i should not read the first chapter. i will be too mad at myself for not being able to read the whole book and getting my interest peaked

I am trying not to form too hash of an opinion of Manolito, but from what I saw of him in Dark Celebration, I am already not liking him too much. He's not earning any favors by the way he sneaks around and pulls the underhanded tricks of his. Why not be up front, and straightforward. If she's his lifemate, as Bekah said, she will come to him anyway, its destined that they are together. She might say she would never be woth a Carpathian male but we ALL know how the bond works, she won't have a choice, the attraction is too strong to one's lifemate, and there's no need for his underhanded, sneaky tricks. He's definitely not endearing himself to me so far.

Okay I feel for Maryann but keep in mind that Mikhail was pretty much preventing the unmated males from entering the homes. Yes in retrospect its a wise decision,... and so not to offend his prince or have oh eight or so full strength Carpathian hunters come down on him, Manalito was a bit underhanded/cunning. Keep in mind that he could have very well snatched Maryann and run... But he didn't. All he did was create the connection - and now he's formed a plan to ensure she comes to him. Which to me seems less barbaric thanwhat our pal Raphael did with Colby.
Another thing Manalito is OLD OLD ladies and gents....Older if not as old as the Legendary Twins. Remember the more ancient, the less patient, a carpathian male becomes, they are simply too close to the dark not to strike out with both hands and "hope" above hope that somehow they can be saved.
I think when this story comes out we'll all be suprised.......

I find Manolito interesting from the little I know of him. Christine Feehan describes him as an individual who loves testing his skills against not only his enemies, but also his fellow hunters. Coupled with this daring, independant, bad-boy persona, you also have a man with a tremendous sense of honor and commitment to his people. I mean to be willing to sacrifice yourself for your people right when you've found your chance at total happiness, shows alot of character. ;D Besides, whatever nasty quirks that Manolito possess, I'm sure MaryAnn can counsel them out. LOL!

I think when this story comes out we'll all be suprised....... I don't know if anyone else mentioned this already, but Manolito also didn't go right into taking MaryAnn away because she said that she would never be with a Carpathian man. There was a part in there where he actually thought, "this was not about seduction," because MaryAnn didn't want that. I think he was pretty respectful of her, especially since he's so close to turning. That took tremendous self-control. Myrrha already mentioned this, but we have to remember that these Carpathians get seriously desperate the older they get. Besides, from a subjective POV, the farther we get into books, the more ways we need for the women to be converted so that things aren't repeated and dragged on. I think having the women have every reason to fight their men every step of the way is a great way to go. And the women like Colby and MaryAnn did or do haev every reason to--I'm not saying that they should just sit back and let these men control their lives. But I feel for Manolito and Rafael, too

As of now I believe that... it wasn't about seduction... it was about survival.
