**************************************************** Bella was just getting off the plane and walking down the stairs to the ground. It was beautiful here. She was hoping that this was going to be the relaxation that she needed. After just leaving Spain, it was so nice there, but as always it wasn’t the relaxing trip she hoped for. No where ever really was. She had learned that the hard way every time.
She had saved up for this trip for the last three years and spent that time researching these areas. Her friends were very envious of her being able to do this, but they were also very much against her doing this alone. She reassured them she would be fine, and it was something she had to do. It was as if something was driving her to do this, no not driving but pulling her here, that part she left to herself. They already knew too much about her, if they were to know this they would not have let her come.
She took a deep breath and looked up at the beautiful blue sky, The Carpathian Mountains. She researched this area the most. There was so much history here she was almost overwhelmed with it all at first, but then having a History Degree, one couldn’t help but want to come see if first hand.
Bella had dreamed of this place on her 18th birthday, it was beautiful in her dreams, but didn’t compare to actually standing here taking it all in.
“Would you be Miss Reese?”
She turned to face a young man, probably about late 20’s, tall, short black hair and ice blue eyes.
“Yes.” Bella replied. Her blonde hair was pulled back into a French braid. She had her back pack over one shoulder, and was wearing her favorite white with purple flowers sundress that was swaying perfectly with the breeze.
“I am Travis Lamont, Miss Reese, from the Concorde Inn. We spoke on the phone about your arrangements.”
“Oh yes, Mr. Lamont, very nice to meet you in person finally.” She smiled brightly. The sun was high for it was about four in the afternoon. She raised her hand to shade her eyes.
At first Travis was taken aback from the sight before him. She was utterly breath taking. She was younger than he had first thought when they spoke over the phone. Now seeing her in person, he wasn’t so sure about the arrangements that they had made.
“We had discussed and made arrangements for you to rent out one of our cabins in the high part of the woods here for the month, are you sure you want to be so far away from the town and all it offers. To be alone in the woods out there may not be safe for someone….” He didn’t want to offend her right off the bat, but he was slightly concerned for her safety. After all, campers and hikers came here quite often to view and explore these mountains, and so many strange things happened to them, worse some have gone missing.
Bella just laughed at that, they always seemed to respond to her welfare, which was nice, but she was more than able to handle herself. Besides, if anything was going to go wrong she would feel it before hand and take all precautions.
“I assure you Mr. Lamont, I will be more than fine. This is not my first stop on my vacation, for I just left Spain, and I stayed in a Villa there surrounded by people. This is my time for seclusion, and then I am off next month as well.” She was very confident and reassuring.
“Well the cabin that you requested is not so close to town and will take us some time to get there. The nearest cabin to that one is about five miles.” He was still unsure about taking her there now.
“Then perhaps we should get started. It is absolutely beautiful here and I am anxious to see more.”
He moved to take her hand, only to have her move slightly and take off her back pack. She offered it for him to take, and smiled. She didn’t like any one to touch her. That was the worst. The less contact with people the better off she was and the less she was able to read on them.
Travis took the back pack in a gentlemanly way, and started toward his Jeep. He opened the door for her and she got in, he threw the back pack in the back and went to get her other luggage. When they were settled in, they started out for the cabin.
*******************************************
The ground was soothing, he was almost home. He had been asleep now for a couple days. The last bout with the vampires, slightly more than fledging though they were, had cost him a few wounds that needed healing.
Cole allowed his lungs to fill with air, and his heart beat, once, twice. He scanned the area noting nothing was within miles other than nature and a few wildlife animals. He lifted the dirt off top of him and risen as the sun was just setting. He felt much better, but he would need to feed.
As his feet was about to settle on the ground, he was completely clean and dressed in cargo khaki pants and a long sleeve beige t-shirt, and hiking boots. His Blond hair was neatly pulled back into a leather tie.
He would push himself tonight, one more night and he would be home. He had a feeling that the something was going to be taking place in his homeland and he wanted to be there to protect his Prince. He had been all over the world, had seen many of his brethren, and fought many vampires.
He was heading from New Orleans, which he had been there a couple years, down towards South America after a lead he was chasing, when he got this sudden feeling about heading home.
Cole had traveled to Europe, and Spain even, not sure why, but as he was able to meet up with other of his brethren and was able to get updated on many of the new occurrences that had been taking place, also learning of many that had found their Lifemates, only made him want to head home more so to protect his homeland and Prince.
He took in a deep breath and let the surroundings tell him what he needed to know, letting himself become mist and headed into the darkening of the sky.
******************************************* The sun was setting just as the Jeep had pulled up in front of the cabin. Travis was enjoying her company. Although he was feeling better about learning that she knew self defense and was prepared with certain weapons, he really didn’t want to just leave her there.
They both made their way into the cabin and turned on some of the lights to inspect the surroundings.
Bella dropped her bags by the front door, and started to explore the cabin as it became more lit with each lamp that got turned on. It was perfect for her, exactly what she needed. She had been so exhausted before this trip, working for the local police department under cover so to speak and helping them out with what cases they were on took a lot out of a person.
Here she wouldn’t have people constantly wanting to touch things and tell them what she felt or saw by it. She took a deep breath. A whole month to herself and hopefully she would be able to get the sleep she truly needed.
“Remember if you need anything, day or night, I don’t care what time it is, you will call me if you need anything right?” Travis couldn’t stress it enough. He wanted to stay longer, but everyone in the area knew not to stay out here by yourself too long.
“I will be fine, and yes, you told me your number about seventeen times and made me memorize it.” She laughed. “I will lock the door after you leave, I promise.” She held up her hand to her forehead in scouts honor. “If I need anything that I have forgotten or don’t have I will call you first okay.”
“You are toying with me aren’t you?” He narrowed his look at her.
“No I promise if I think that I may be in any danger or of any need I will call you first.” She swore.
He looked out, the night was getting darker and he needed to get back to the Hotel. He sighed, “Okay I really have to get going. But don’t go outside here at night if you don’t have to. I will be up in a few days with some more supplies as was arranged.”
He went to shake her hand and she swiftly moved to the door and opened it.
“Aye, Aye Captain.” She smirked. “I will look forward to the visit.”
Travis shook his head and made his way back to the Jeep. On his way out he heard the door shut behind him and lock. At least it made him feel a little better about leaving her. He looked up to the sky and said a little prayer that she would be fine and not leave the cabin to much. After all she wanted seclusion and she was getting it.
Bella picked up her bags and headed for the bedroom and started to unpacked. She then pulled out her sweat pants and a large t-shirt also some sweat socks and placed them on the bed. After she was unpacked, she got redressed into her lounge clothes and pulled out one of her books and went out to the kitchen/living room. She set the book on a chair in front of the fireplace and went to fix herself something to eat.
***************************************************
The sun was just about to rise and Cole was exhausted, but he had made it. He traveled all night and now he was home. Today he would rest in his homeland, in the ground that he was made for. He had fed well before his journey and now he would get the rest he much needed.
Cole scanned the area and noted that campers where in the vicinity of the grounds he was near, but only within a distance. He found a well shaded area of the high mountains to take as his resting place.
As he settled into the ground, if he had emotions he would sigh in awe of feeling the ground in which he lay. He let the dirt cover him, and thought back again to all those who had found their Lifemates. Some had lasted a thousand years or more and found them. Then there were the vampires that he fought that didn’t wait hardly a century or two before giving up on themselves and their honor.
It was a strange thought to have. He wouldn’t really allow himself to think that of a life with a mate often, perhaps if he did he would not truly keep to his honor and protect his people or that of the human race. He would become selfish and only want for himself. If she was out there, would he find her? Would he be able to last as long as some to find her? How much longer could he exist if she didn’t? And why was he thinking of this? He summed it up to the knowledge of all that he had learned these past few weeks on his journey home, deciding that was it he set his safeguards and shut down his system and slept the sleep of his kind.
***************************************************
It was early afternoon when Bella had made her way out of the cabin. She had slept most of the morning, after having stayed up all night reading in front of the fire. She couldn’t remember having such a wonderful night of sleep, or morning that is. She had got up and showered, got dressed into her hiking outfit and boots and was about to set out on one of the trails.
She had grabbed her camera and couldn’t wait to get some good pictures of the area. She started up one trail, and that trail had branched off to another. Taking pictures of the trees and the flowers and the view was spectacular She started to take the path that branched off, but then something inside her told her to keep walking straight, so she did.
The incline was getting steeper and she was getting to a clearing towards the top of a large hill. Just as she got to the clearing she was in awe of her surroundings. This was truly a place of beauty, of serenity, and safeness. She actually felt safe here.
It was late August and the trees were full and so many hues of green it was almost surreal. The smells and the sounds were something she would never be able to catch on film, but something she would always remember. As she was taking a picture of a boulder between two trees her cell phone went off.
“Hey Bear.” She picked up the phone on the third ring.
“Hey gorgeous, how’s it going?” Her friend Jason was always grumpy and easily annoyed, they all called him Bear. He was actually her best friend, and they got along more like brother and sister. He made sure to call her at least three times a week, and that her cell phone had overseas range or else he would have never let her on this adventure.
“Not bad at all thanks. My first day in seclusion of the mountain range and I can’t complain at all. My god Bear you should see this place.” She sat down on the same boulder she had just taken a picture of, over looking the mountains before her.
“Are you out taking pictures now?” He chuckled.
“Yes, and I will send them through as soon as I can. Did you get the last set of Spain I sent out? ” She had been emailing back and forth with them to let them know where she was and that she was alright, also giving them some of the best shots she had been taking.
“Yes, I take it you haven’t logged on then yet.”
“No, I just got in late yesterday afternoon and settled in. I will set up my laptop tonight and answer my mail.” She was suppose to be by herself, but she was thankful that there were those who new where she was at all times and cared about her.
“I suspected you haven’t been on for a few days since you haven’t answered anybodies mail.” He edged.
“Why?”
“Well I am sure you will have a box full when you do. There has been a lot of commotion going on around here and the local police have been having problems with tourist crowding some scenes lately.” He started to explain.
“What kind of scenes?” Thank god she wasn’t home, or else she would be working full time with local police department. She probably had a bunch of mail from them as well that would explain more than Bear would know. Lately there had been much going on in the upstate area of New York.
“Well they aren’t saying much on the news as usual, but some people have gone missing and now they are finding remains in the parks area, they will update us further as they get the information.” He filled her in with what the news had said exactly.
Bella sighed, unfortunately it was cruel world out there and sick things were happening everyday. Some of the visions she would get would be good, but mostly bad. That just made her sad and needed to get away from it all. Also crowds of people, they would bump into her and she would have a vision of that person, or such. She was tired of it all.
She looked around here again and was very thankful she was here.
“Well then I will get on tonight and answer the emails, to let everyone know that I am alright. But I can’t say that I am sorry to be away from there.”
“Alright babe, I will watch for your emails then, and if you need anyone to talk to give me a call, anytime.” He was very serious.
“I know. I love you too.” She smiled and hung up the phone. She sighed again, trying to get her mind to just close down for a minute as she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Well this was as good a time as any to head back to the cabin. She got up and headed back in that direction.

************************************************ Cole was sleeping in the ground when there was a disturbance that had woken him. Something had come through his safeguards. Thinking at first that it may have been just a deer he scanned the area above him to be sure. Nothing was there at first, but then he heard talking. This wasn’t an animal. He focused on the voice and just as he did that his body was filled with sensation.
The voice seemed to flow right through him. It was almost as if a fireworks display had gone off before his eyes, he blinked even though his eyes were still shut. He nearly choked on the breath that his body took even though he was basically paralyzed in the ground. What was happening to him? That voice was amazing to him, though he couldn’t focus on what was going on around him.
He knew that it was mid afternoon and he wouldn’t be able to rise, even though the area he chose was completely shaded, he couldn’t take that chance. He tried to scan the area again, only to still not be able to sense any presence, so he tried to focus on the voice again. He could make out the words and knew that it was a female that was talking to someone. Though again he didn’t sense any other presence either.
Then the voice stopped and suddenly it was gone. Moments later, whatever the disturbance was in his safeguard was now gone and he was trapped in the ground until he could rise and find who ever that was.
*************************************************
Bella had made her way back to the cabin, and pulled out her laptop and set it up. She had been working on returning as many emails as she could. Bear was right, her in box was pretty full, so much for everyone letting her have a relaxing vacation.
She made a quick sandwich, and pulled out her CD player and portable speakers. She headed out the pond that was just out back a ways from the house. The sun was going to be setting soon and she just wanted to some more time outside before it became to dark to see.
Setting up her CD player and putting in a CD, she set her towel down beside it and made her way over to the edge of the waters deep end. Looking around she smiled, after all she was alone. Bella stripped off her clothes and dove in.
The water was refreshing and the air was just right for the afternoon swim. While swimming in the water, a vision came to her of two people in this water. A male and female, they would play back and forth and things would eventually lead to the couple making love in the water. She smiled at that, unknown to the couple they would also conceive in this water. The only thing strange about the vision is the faces were unclear.
Since she hadn’t bumped into anyone, she didn’t have a face to go with the vision, and that usually wasn’t the case. However, since it wasn’t a bad vision, she let it go and didn’t think about it anymore.
The sun was near setting and it had been a while for her to be in the water, so she got out and found her towel and wrapped up in it. Sat down next to her CD player and just enjoyed the sounds of the forest around her and the music.
***************************************************
Not being able to take it much longer, the sun was near setting and Cole needed to get out of the torment that he was in. He figured the sun was low enough and had risen. The area was dark enough to not bother him though his eyes could feel the tingling sensation of the sun still being up.
He dressed himself in his khaki cargos and a white t-shirt and hiking boots, his hair pulled back and a pair of very dark sunglasses that helped somewhat. As he returned the earth to the way it was before his resting, he sensed a tropical citrus smell in the air. It filled his nose and body and he was immediately intrigued and aroused by the smell.
Still unknown to him what was going on with his body, he had to find the source of that smell.
He headed down the path that would lead to the bottom of the hill that he had chosen. The closer to the bottom of the hill he got, the more the smell had come to him. He hadn’t been home in centuries and knew that the area would be completely different, but as he scanned the area he knew he was close to a cabin.
The closer he got to the cabin, the more he noticed the colors that were bursting around him, his body was tingling and getting more aroused to the point of pain, and in desperate need. His breathing was becoming ragged as he moved and then he heard the noise of water being splashed around. He turned toward to the noise and stopped when he saw the woman that was swimming in the pond.
Her hair was pulled back into a single braid that stopped between her shoulder blades, her body was naked and he had to stop near a tree and placed his hands on it, to keep himself from going after her. Digging his fingers deep enough to make slight grooves in it, but never taking his eyes off of her.
This was absurd, why would he be feeling this way? He sniffed the air, taking in her scent and nearly howled at the sensation that went through his entire body. Could she be his Lifemate?
When she got out of the water and walked naked and dripping wet to the towel, it took everything he had in himself to stay routed where he was. He clenched his hands into fists and dug them into the tree. His body was taking over him and he was losing control quickly. He had to find out who she was.
************************************************
Bella was lying back on her arms and enjoying the moment, when she realized she wasn’t alone anymore. Her senses had focused on something that was powerful and deadly in the area. She sat up slowly and looked around, and though she didn’t see anything her intuition knew something was out there.
She got up cautiously and picked up her clothes slowly and turned off her CD player and gathered that up in her arms, all while looking around the see if she could catch a glimpse of something watching her.
She tried to act nonchalantly and started to make her way back to the cabin, while her heart was pounding.
It was then that Cole had noticed the racing of her heartbeat, he hadn’t heard it before, though his body was going into overload could explain that one. He waited until she was almost at the cabins front porch before he made his move away from the tree. Only his body seemed to follow her, and not go in another direction.
Bella made it to the top of the steps of the porch when even though she wasn’t looking she could see someone walking toward her. Not wanting to think her imagination was going into meltdown for being alone for one day, she turned around to notice the man that was walking the path toward her.
My god, she was naked under the towel, and the man even at a distance was a friggin oak tree. She turned toward the door and hurried in and shut the door and locked it. Maybe now would be a good time to call Travis. She ran to the bedroom and very quickly dispensed of the towel and threw on her blue jeans and t-shirt. By time she had gotten the shirt on there was a knock at the door.
Her heart was racing and she needed to focus, she ran to the side of the bed and grabbed her knife that she took with her on her hikes, keeping it in her hand and still barefoot she went to the door.
“Yes.” Damn she wished her voice didn’t sound so scared.
“I am sorry to have frightened you miss. I am from around this area, though I haven’t been home in a long time. I just wanted to introduce myself.” Cole’s voice was deep and calm and soothing. “Are you from around here?”
Bella took a deep breath, she needed to focus and that voice was utterly sending shivers down her body. Although the man seemed to be a human weapon himself, she hadn’t sensed anything or saw any violence in his presence. But she still had to make sure.
“Could you please put your hand on the door?” She asked, trying to sound calm. It may sound strange to him, but if he wanted her to open the door he would oblige her.
“Yes.” Cole frowned at that, what an odd request, but he did so.
When his hand was on the door, she placed her hand on the other side. Bella closed her eyes and though it wasn’t direct contact, she would at least sense if he was a threat to her, at least she was pretty sure. No visions came to her, no premonition that this man had any means of harming her. Just this once, she was thankful to have such a gift.
She unlocked the door and stepped out. No way was she going to let him in and she still was holding her knife in her hand at her side to let him know she would be willing to fight back if necessary.
Cole tried to hide the smile that wanted to come forward when he noted the knife in her hand, as if that was any protection against him. Although he gave her credit for bravery, she wasn’t stupid.
“I am very sorry that I frightened you. I was not aware that anyone was staying in this cabin when I came down the hill. I am Cole Brentusky, my family has lived in this area forever. And you would be?” His voice was calm and he put a subtle compulsion in it to relax her.
Oh this man was good, she could read the subtle tones in his voice and new he was playing her. He not only looked like gods gift to women, but he obviously played the part well too. The one thing she wasn’t looking for on this trip was Casanova and she might as well let him know it too.
“I am Bella Reese. I am from the United States, Upper state New York. I am only renting the cabin for the month and then I will be gone.” She replied politely but letting him know she wasn’t interested, then walked over to one of the beams on the front porch and leaned against it. Knowing her body language and the way she spoke would tell all.
He smiled at that, but was slightly confused, he couldn’t read her mind. Unlike most humans that were like an open book, she had a full mental block up. She was obviously trying to let him down easy, and he wanted to laugh at that. Unlike most of the women he got near that was willing to offer all and anything he would take, she was letting him know up front she wasn’t interested. His smile became even bigger. He was never one to turn down a challenge.
Bella had to look away, okay no man should look that good, and to top it off with that smile. Her system might go into meltdown overload.
“What are you doing here in the Carpathian Mountains?” Cole asked.
“I am on vacation and a little research as well.” She left it at that, still not looking at him.
The sun was set now and it was getting a little colder up her in the hills, she placed the knife inside waistband of her jeans and crossed her arms over her chest, her t-shirt was a little damp from her quick change, and she was still barefoot. She needed to get back in the cabin after all she did promise to stay inside when it was dark.
There was little light coming from inside and it was getting harder to see with the darkness taking over, she looked over at him and saw him half lit by the light, oh man he was hot, which meant this was a good as time as ever to get rid of him.
“It is getting late, and I made a promise to a friend that I would stay inside after dark. I don’t mean to keep you from anything Mr. Brentusky.”
“Cole, please.” He corrected her and looked up to the sky and scanned it. Nothing was amiss and he was thankful for that, he may not have to strength to leave her right now. His body was a flame and he was certain she was his lifemate since the words that were in betted in him from birth wanted to be spoken and was chanting through his head.
“Alright Cole then, I have some work that I need to do tonight and I don’t want to keep you from what ever it is you do.” She started to head for the door thinking that was that.
“Would you care for some help?”
“No. I mean, the work I do is pretty easy done by myself, but thank you.” She was just standing in front of the door and the light behind her outlined her body. Cole needed to touch her, he needed to bury himself in her and say the words that needed to be said.
He also needed to feed, that was more than apparent at this point, and though he wanted to feed off of her, he might not be able to stop himself.
“There is actually something I need to do. However, do you mind if I return tonight. Just to check on you and see that everything is alright.” He was twitching in need of her and the thought of leaving her was almost unbearable but he better sooner than later.
“Why would you need to come back?” she gapped at him.
He stepped up in front of her and started to lift his hand as if to touch her face, only to have her step back and turn her head and flinch.
“Are you alright?” There was real concern in his voice.
“I am fine, I assure you. I am just uncomfortable with being touched that is all.” Her heart was pounding with him so close and it wasn’t because she was afraid of him. Not sure what was wrong with her, she chalked it up to the fact that she didn’t want to explain to him her life story.
He frowned at that and then looked at the wood door. She had asked him to place his hand on the door, and she didn’t like to be touched. He tried to read her again, only to come up with a blank again. This was frustrating.
“Why don’t you like to be touched?” He asked in earnest.
“It is something of a personal matter. I really do have work to do, if you will excuse me.” She said and started to step into the doorway.
“Of course, but I will be back to check on you.” And with that he turned and walked away.
She frowned, well of all the nerve. She walked into the cabin and shut and locked the door.

***********************************************
Cole had left and was on his way to feed. All the while he was puzzled. He had a lifemate which was astounding to him, but he couldn’t figure her out. She obviously had some physic powers, he had heard as much through the last few years of how a human woman with physic abilities could be a lifemate to his race of males. However, she was unreadable, he knew nothing about her, and she was strong willed.
Cole smiled at that, she would be a challenge for him that is for sure, but he was definitely not one to back down from a challenge. His honor, strong will, and love for the battle had kept him the way he was for seven hundred plus years now. He just needed to find his strategy.
***********************************************
Bella had gone back to her laptop and finished emailing everyone that she didn’t get to earlier. She had downloaded her pictures that she took today and sent some of them out. She wasn’t very hungry, so she just grabbed a glass of juice and her book and settled in front of the fire and started to read. Before she knew it she was sound asleep.
As she was sleeping she felt a hand brush her cheek and she smiled. It was such a soft touch, so sweet as if it was meant for a loved one, a cherished one. It immediately brought Cole to mind, but unfortunately the dream that accompanied it was not as sweet as the touch.
It was dark, in the middle of a woodsy area. Cole was fighting three beings the likes of monster material you would see in movies. Only these would make anyone in the horror movies drool with wanting to recreate it. They were fighting, doing unbelievable super human things, faster than the eye, swinging at one another with mind tricks then one of them mentioned something to him and distracted him, only to have two of them disappear and reappear behind him as the third dug his hand into his chest, ripping through skin and bone…..
That is when Bella woke up in a sweat and gasped for breath, her hand going to her throat as she tried to draw in air into her lungs. She had never had a dream like that one before. Looking around the room she became aware she wasn’t alone. Cole was now standing beside her, she jumped up from her chair and he was in front of her, his hands went to her arms to keep her still and to calm her.
While she was sleeping her guard was down and he saw what she had seen.
“Shhhh, Bella it is okay. I am fine.” His emotions alone were going through turmoil, he wanted to crush her to him and protect and sooth her, and yet he knew she wouldn’t accept it just yet.
Cole was standing in front of her, and she was aware that he was touching her arms, but even at that contact it brought back what she had just seen. Her hands went to his chest to prove to her that there wasn’t a hole there.
“I am fine Bella, see for yourself. I am fine.” He was trying to reassure her. “It was just a dream.”
“No it wasn’t Cole.” She blurted out, she was still trying to catch her breath and just then her cell phone went off.
“Shit.” She went over to the table and picked up her cell. “Hello”
“Hey girlie, how are ya?” It was her friend Julie.
“Your timing is way off Jules. I feel asleep for a bit, and had a dousey of a dream. But I am recovering, how goes it on your end?” Bella walked over and sat in front of the fire, suddenly chilled.
“I didn’t wake you did I....I am not sure of your time zone now. Is it different from Spain?” Julie was dodging a bit.
“It is night time here, but not late, why?” Bella smiled.
“Well it is morning here and I just woke up myself.” She started, but sounded like she wanted to talk, but not sure how to start.
“And?”
“Well, I had a strange dream about you as well, and just wanted to call and check on you.” She stated.
“Oh. Great the freak is out of town so you decided to join the physic friends’ network. How’s that going for you?” Bella snickered at that.
“It wasn’t like that at all Bella and that is not funny, you are not a freak.” Julie was very adamant.
“Sorry.” Bella stretched, “Very well girl you know I can only pick up so much over the phone so spill it….what was your dream about?”
“Ummm, have you met anyone lately? Like, how is your love life going?” She sounded a little strange.
Bella burst out laughing, “My love life? Ahh, pretty much the same it was before I left for my trip. As to meeting anyone, I am by myself girl….anyone I came in contact with this last month or so, I have met all kinds of new people.”
“Well my dream was that you met someone and didn’t come home.” Julie actually sounded sad.
Bella shook her head at the sadness of her friends’ voice. “Jules, you know that Bear, you and me are going to be 92 yrs old rocking in chairs on our front porch bitching we never met that love of our life. That is just how it is. We will be together forever, don’t even start stressing about it now girl, or else you will wear yourself down and then you will just be leaving me with Bear.” She attempted to cheer her friend up.
“Well it wasn’t so much that I saw you with someone, it was more that a bunch of us was together and sad because you decided to not come home.”
“Great, I am gone for a month and all of you are falling apart with out me. It is nice to be missed though.” Bella tried for humor to lighten the mood of her friend.
It worked, Julie laughed, “Oh boy if we thought your head was big before, there will be no living with you when you get back.” She teased back.
Bella looked over at Cole and noticed he was watching her intently, never losing eye contact with him, “Listen Jules, I am in the middle of something. Mind if I talk to ya later?”
“Oh no problem, I have to head out to work now anyway. You take care of yourself and if you need anything, just call okay.”
“Will do. Love ya girl.”
“Love ya” she hung up.
Bella tossed her phone over to the couch, and Cole watched it as it landed.
“So what did you make of all that?” Bella was just curious to what this god like creature was thinking.
“I take it you have a lot of friends, and that she is very concerned for you.” He started looking back at her.
“I have a few, yes” She confirmed.
“You are very hard to read you know that?” He asked her.
Her eyes widened at that. “I am, that is something I have never heard before. I have always been told I am an open book. What you see is what you get.” She gave a very mischievous smile.
He couldn’t fight it anymore, hell he didn’t want to. He walked from the couch to the chair that just before the fire and sat down, now sitting only a foot away from her.
“And what do I get?” His voice turning very husky.
For just a moment, she let her eyes drop to his lips, wondering for a moment what it would be like to kiss someone like him. But that is all it would ever be, a wonder.
“Look Cole, I don’t do relationships, and I definitely don’t do flings either. I am sorry if you have any ideas on that, but I am not the girl you are looking for.”
She couldn’t be more wrong. She was his and she didn’t know it yet.
“Perhaps we should get to know each other first before you make a final decision on that.” He stated simply.
“Cole.”
“Are you a virgin?” He asked bluntly.
She was shocked that he would ask such a thing, “That is kinda personal don’t you think.”
“No, I figured get the hard stuff out of the way and then we can work our way down from there. I am a virgin.” He was talking as if this was a normal conversation
Okay that one she didn’t expect and so didn’t believe that Mr. Gods gift was telling the truth either.
“Oh yeah, I can see the ladies turning you down.” She was actually upset at this conversation.
“No, it wasn’t them, it was me. I am waiting to find my lifemate. Have you ever heard of a lifemate?” He wanted to know exactly how much she knew, since he couldn’t read her, and the damn words wanted to come out to bind them together.
“A lifemate? Like a life partner?” Why was she going along with this conversation? What was wrong with her?
He frowned, “I am not sure what you mean by a partner.”
“You know, guy-guy, girl-girl, life partners,” then she got a huge grin on her face, “Are you gay?” Oh that would just be the icing for the cake.
“No.” He sat back in the chair, where on earth was she getting this.
“It isn’t a problem if you are Cole. I know quite a few gay men myself.” She couldn’t stop the smile, this was fun, this man didn’t get teased very much, and he really couldn’t take it either.
“I am not gay. I will show you just how not gay I am.” He seemed offended.
“You opened the conversation.”
“I was talking about the other person that completes you, your other half. I don’t know where you got such an idea.” He was miffed. Oh man he was cute that way.
“You mean like a soul mate then.”
“Sort of, yes, a lifemate.” He looked into the fire.
Oh he was just too cute. She was having fun and he was a complete stranger to her, and yet she felt as though she knew him in a way, and was comfortable enough to joke with him.
“So you believe in this lifemate thing? Are you really a virgin?” She figured she better try to be serious, he wasn’t in the mood to be teased, but when he was he better look out.
He looked her in the eye, “Yes. And yes. Do you?”
She looked into the fire. “You mean like Prince Charming and Cinderella, every little girl fantasizes at some point of her life, but you grow up and realize that life isn’t like it is in the fairytales. Happily Ever After doesn’t really exist.”
“I believe it does.”
She looked back at him, “You know if this is a line, its not going to work out to well for you.” She smirked at him and he laughed at that.
They spent the next few hours talking and getting to know one another. Before either one of them new it, the morning was there and the sky was lighting up.
Cole said he had to go, but he would be back tonight. As she walked him to the door, she noted that the door was still locked. She looked up at him, and he smiled.
“Make sure this is locked when I leave.” He said and bent down and gave her a peck kiss.
She wasn’t expecting it and was surprised by the gesture. He smiled and winked at her, “See you tonight.”
And with that he walked out the door and closed it behind him.
