It was over an hour later when Travis was finally leaving. He still didn’t want to leave Bella, he really liked being by her, which Cole was more than aware of. However after some soft persuasion by Cole, he finally felt the need to leave.
They stood on the front porch and watched as Travis pulled the Jeep away. As soon as he was pretty much down the hill, Bella turned and walked back into the cabin with out saying a word.
Cole sighed. She was not going to be easy to deal with. She was really pissed at him. He knew that the moment he woke and risen. He felt her anger toward him and he knew the reason why too. He heard it in the merge with her.
She walked over to her computer and booted it up, and sat down at the table and ignored Cole, well the best she could.
He walked into the cabin and slowly shut the door behind him and locked the door, turning to face her.
“Bella?” He said her name softly.
“You can leave too Cole. There is no reason for you to stay either.” She said, never looking up at him, opening her email.
“Bella you are not even going to ask me why I wasn’t here when you woke up this afternoon?” His voice was calm and soft.
She shook her head, still not looking in his direction.
He walked toward her slowly, quietly, a predator after his prey. He stopped just behind her and placed his hands on her shoulders and started to massage them.
“Bella, your cabin is too much in the sun, in the afternoon I can not be here because of that or I would. I don’t want to leave you. Ever.” He said quietly.
She tried to shrug his hands off.
I would have loved to have been here Bella when you woke and made love to you again
He spoke the words softly and seductively in her mind, filling her with heat and desire.
She shivered as the words slithered through her. She closed her eyes and tried to ignore his hands on her and his voice inside her head.
“Don’t Cole.” She tried to sound strong and angry besides the emotions that were washing through her.
“What can I say to make it better Bella? I would do anything for you. It is killing me that you are mad at me.”
She wheeled around and stood to face him.
“Really Cole, can you turn back time? Can you go back and make up for the fact that I was alone after the night we spent together? If you couldn’t have been here, have you ever heard of pen and paper, maybe leave a note or something.” She said walking away from him, the further she got away from him and his heat the more she remembered the feeling it was to wake up alone.
“I can’t go back in time, I am very sorry for that. I never even thought to leave a note, I am still new to this Bella as are you. I just knew that when the sun went down I was coming back to you.” He was very sincere in his wording. Perhaps he should have left something, she was right. He knew he was going to return, but she didn’t. In her mind, he got what he wanted and moved on.
She narrowed her eyes at him, “What does that have to do with it?” That didn’t make any sense to her what so ever.
“I told you I wanted to explain more to you tonight. Will you sit down so that we can discuss this?”
She looked at the couch, then back at him. She walked over to the door and with tears in her eyes she looked at him. “Not tonight Cole. I am not ready to forget or forgive tonight. I just can’t.” She opened the door for him.
He was dying inside, he had to make this up to her and he didn’t know how. Maybe if he did take a walk he would be able to clear his head and think about what he could do. He walked over and stood in front of her, his heart breaking.
“I will go since I know you need the time alone.” He lifted her face to him and placed a soft and sincere kiss on her lips. “But I want you to know that I will be back. We are lifemates and I won’t give up on you, not at all.”
He turned and walked out the door, she closed it behind him. She leaned back against the wall and cried for the first time that day.
***********************************************
Cole knew she was crying and it was tearing him up inside. He had to break off from her or else he would go insane. His emotions were overriding him, and he still couldn’t think of anything that would make up for what she was feeling.
He had asked him brethren through the Carpathian line of things that would happen along the conversion of his lifemate and learned of the changes that would happen to her. He didn’t have much more happy news to offer her, except himself. After last night, he would have been the happiest male alive on earth, only today was completely different.
He felt guilt of the change that she would have to make, or he would have to make the decision to live the rest of her life as a human and weaken as they grew old together. If that was her choice he would do it in a heartbeat, only his species were dying out already. This was a very serious situation to try to work out between them.
Cole needed to run and shifted into his wolf form and took off on a path in the opposite direction of the cabin.
***********************************************
Cole had run for hours, he felt much relief and he was heading back to Bella’s cabin, he was going to give all the answers she wanted. He was going to tell her everything. The closer he got to the cabin he scanned the area noting there was nothing there. He scanned it again, there again was nothing. No sign of a heartbeat, no sign of life of any kind. He became frantic.
He ran toward the clearing and up to the cabin, with his powers he burst the door open to see the lights were on inside, but Bella was no where around. He shifted back into his male form.
He tried to reach her telepathically and the only thing he senses was she was not alone and scared.
Bella where are you?
He stood still scanning the surrounding area, she wasn’t close by. He could only make out that she was scared. He tried to see through her eyes but he couldn’t make out anything.
Bella baby where are you so that I can come get you? He kept his voice calm.
I don’t know. I can’t see anything Cole. She whispered in her head. Its cold and I feel dirt with my hands, they are tied to something.
He could feel the panic rising in her. He ran out of the cabin and shifted into mist and took to the air. He sniffed in each direction.
What happened?
She bit her lip as tears came to her eyes again. If she didn’t get so mad at him for not being there that afternoon, it was her fault he wasn’t there when she really needed him.
Cole it is awful. My vision Cole, it is real. She sobbed to him.
He was in turmoil and needed to know what happened.
Baby listen to me, remember what happened so that I can find you.
She was crying again, then she remembered the feeling that came over the cabin, the menacing feeling that surrounded the cabin and she thought it was Cole again, so she opened the door to yell at him and let him explain, she needed to see him again. Only it wasn’t him, three monsters had found her, grabbed her and taken to the air.
When she came to, she was tied to something and her eyes were covered.
Cole growled when he knew that Damien had her. He just needed to find the void in the area. She was with three vampires. He raced across the sky scanning and sensing for the undead, any void, and her scent anything that would lead him to where she was.
It took him nearly forty-five minutes to locate an area that was woodsy and open where the head vampire was waiting for him.
There was thunder off in the distance and the storm was building as Cole’s frustration and anger began to build.
He set down just before them. It was just as the vision that him and Bella had seen twice.
Shifting into his male form as he landed on the ground and faced Damien Traylov, a friend of the old day, another good male turned. What a shame, as Cole shook his head.
“Damien, so we meet again.” He bowed in his manner to the man he use to know.
“Ah Cole, so nice to see you again. Still serving your unappreciated honor to your Prince?” Damien snidely responded.
“Still very much a man of honor, thank you.” He gracefully answered.
The anger was building in Cole for he wanted to get down to business. He looked around him, noting it was only the two of them.
“So where are your goons?” Scanning the area that surrounded them, he couldn’t read them.
Damien arched an eyebrow to that. “Who would you be inquiring about?”
“The two fledging you have working for you.” He stated.
Damien smiled, “Oh they are around I am sure, somewhere. They will join us momentarily when there work is done.”
“What do you have them doing for you now?” Cole was calm and cool, not giving any hint to the concern that was going through his entire body.
Damien stood still for a moment and then shrugged, “Let us just say they are preparing my main meal for me. I like to sleep on a full stomach.”
That literally sent chills down Coles back. Although vampire and Carpathian alike used blood for sustenance, Carpathians respected the humans they fed off of. Vampires tortured and killed their prey. He was also getting a sinking feeling about who was his main meal, and that just couldn’t happen.
Cole’s black eyes went ice cold, he shook his head, “It is a pity. You were a good Carpathian once. It is a shame that you wasted your life and turned, only to be hunted by your fellow brothers. To think that you couldn’t hold out longer to find your lifemate, you destroyed your life and hers.”
“What would you know of a lifemate Cole? Who is to say that the woman I have doesn’t belong to me?” Damien was losing his temper and no longer wanted to play. He didn’t need to be reminded of what his choice was.
With that Damien attacked first, swiping at Cole with his razor sharp claws and slicing skin down his arm, shredding his shirt as Cole blocked the attack. Then they were fighting back and forth when the other two arrived and entered the fight. The rain was falling hard, three against one. Damien felt that he had the upper hand with the fight, seeing he had more help on his side.
Only Cole had seen this twice now and was more prepared. With no severe injuries but still bleeding none the less, he took his time, built the storm for what he would need. The two fledging had shifted into wolf form and attacked from the sides, only to have Cole shift into mist and lay inches above the ground. They side swiped each other and fell to the ground, Cole shifted back and struck them with lightning and they laid there twitching in pain trying for form back into their male selves.
“You fight as though you are trying to save someone Cole. Tell me do you know the woman that I have? She is very beautiful and tasty as well.” He laughed and licked his lips, knowing very well that the woman had been with Cole, she reeked of him.
That was the distraction that was for Cole, only he turned it to his favor, he stepped back three steps and stopped. When Damien was confused by this move, Cole used the speed of their kind and struck, fist first through his chest and pulled out his beating black heart. He immediately called down the lightning to strike the pulsing organ before it had the chance to hit the ground, never taking his eyes off of the trembling man before him.
“Justice is served Damien, may you find the peace that you need when you leave this earth.” He called down the lightning and fire and took care of the body and the blood so that no traces could be left behind. Then he took care of the fledging as well.
The sky was lighting up soon and he had to find Bella still. He took to the air and called to her again. Using his senses to locate her, after all she did have his blood in her.
Bella, I need you to focus on your surroundings
She was weak, she moaned. Are they gone?
Yes, they are all gone. Now I need you to tell me what you hear or even smell.
She was relieved that the vision she had didn’t end the way it had. She was tired, she had fought for herself as well and now she just needed to sleep.
I know that I am surrounded by dirt I can smell that and salt water too.
Her words were a mere whisper as he headed toward the ocean. She must have been put into one of the caves there. He sniffed the air for any sign of her blood and citrus smell. He had a pretty good idea where she was and headed that way.
